Hidden in the Shadows: Human Rights violations against the Baloch in Iran and Pakistan
Hidden in the Shadows: Human Rights Violations Against the Baloch in Iran and Pakistan is an urgent seminar examining the ongoing human rights crisis facing the Baloch people in Iran and Pakistan. Organised by the Baloch Advocacy and Studies Center (BASC) in collaboration with the Iranian Society at SOAS, this event brings together researchers, advocates, and key international voices to shed light on a largely neglected issue.
The first session focuses on the alarming rise in extrajudicial executions and systemic repression in Iran’s Sistan and Balochestan province, featuring the 2025 human rights update and the launch of BASC’s 2024 Annual Report. The session includes a keynote from Mai Sato, UN Special Rapporteur on Iran.
The second session shifts focus to Pakistan, with new findings on enforced disappearances and state violence in Balochistan, culminating in a keynote by Dr Sabiha Baloch, a prominent activist and leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee.
This timely seminar offers expert insight, first-hand testimonies, and space for audience engagement on one of the most pressing but underreported human rights issues in the region.
