Honorary Research Fellow

Gustavo joined ICPR in September 2022 as an honorary research fellow to assist the project “Unlocking potential: towards effective, sustainable and ethical provision of employment opportunities for prisoners and prison-leavers”. He has been a public Prosecutor (Promotor de Justiça) in Brazil since 2018 and lecturer in Penal Process at UNINASSAU - Centro Universitário Maurício de Nassau (Recife). 

He just completed his Masters degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Edinburgh where he did research about the introduction of mobile phones in Scottish prisons. 

From 2012 to 2018 Gustavo was the head (Corregedor-Geral) of the disciplinary department at the Penitentiary System of the State of Pará (Brazil) and implemented many changes towards a human rights approach in his department.
